Chelsea faces an internal debate while deciding the direction to take at a crucial position

Yesterday we noted some of the growing whispers about a possible Marc Guehi return to Chelsea, an today we’re getting some more details.

It was Ben Jacobs who broke the story, and he had more details in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside, released today.

Firstly the insider played down any links with Ousmane Diomande, the Sporting defender. Jacobs made it sound much more like Guehi is higher up the list. He expects “healthy internal debate” at Chelsea, with perhaps Mauricio Pochettino pushing for more players who are ready now and the transfer team looking for more long term prospects.

It won’t be easy, and we already have a number of talented options in the position, so perhaps January is a little soon to expect a move of this side.

As Jacobs concludes however, the priority is getting Trevoh Chalobah off the books, then the club can proceed with figuring out how to operate going forward.
