Chelsea fans must stop deluding themselves that another €85m will solve their team’s issues
If there’s one thing football fans love, it’s transfers. Any problem with your team, no matter how complicated, can be solves in an instant, if you’re lucky, with a transfer.
So with Chelsea two years in to a quite hellish period of suffering, despite so many failed efforts to get things right, it’s still something that many cling on to.
So the links to Napoli winger Kvara Kvaratskhelia are gold dust. He’s such quicksilver on the ball that one can easily convince yourself he’s the one. Just look at what Glen Johnson had to say:
“I’ve obviously not seen him play as much as the wingers that are currently with Chelsea, but from what I saw of Kvaratskhelia in the Champions League with Napoli last season, he looks like a proper threat in front of goal. He’s quick, he’s got a great strike on him and he will get goals, which is something that many of the wingers aren’t doing at this moment in time at Chelsea,” Johnson said to CGRecon.
“They don’t necessarily need to buy another winger, but Kvaratskhelia could represent a step up on some of the wingers at the club if he continues on doing what he’s doing at the highest level. If he’s available and he’s not going to cost an astronomical amount, then this is definitely a deal for Chelsea to keep their eye on.”
He looks a far better and more polished player than, say, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, and perhaps a more rounded one than Raheem Sterling or Cole Palmer. But at some point we’re going to have to stop thinking about transfer as the only way to improve our performances.
