Chelsea owners remove club favorite from matchday program and commentary responsibilities

We’ve always been a fan of Pat Nevin as a pundit and as a writer, so we have certainly been among those who have noticed that his weekly column on the Chelsea website has vanished recently. He’s also no longer ever on co-commentary duties for the club’s media channels.

According to an exclusive in the Daily Telegraph today, the cult hero and former Blues winger has basically been let go by the club, who left him hanging over the summer and then eventually got in touch to say he wasn’t needed anymore.

What’s disappointing for a man who written for the programme and website for 13 years is that he didn’t hear from anyone first hand. He has had no direct communication from any of the ownership or the chief executive.

Nevin remains philosophical about the whole thing, but we’re sure he’s a little hurt:

“There are no bad feelings, you just shrug your shoulders and move on. A few people have told me I should be angry about the way I found out, but that’s not me. I’ve never really been like that.

“I’ve got no high expectations just because I played for the club or anything like that. You do a job and then you don’t.”

Nevin was slightly critical of the new ownership – how could you not be? But it didn’t seem like there had been any great falling out, just a gentle purge of the non-believer it seems.
