Chelsea player remains resilient despite difficult circumstances

Chelsea player stays determined despite challenging circumstances; What happened

Now it’s the international break, players have gone back to their home countries, something which often produces very interesting interviews and content. AD in the Netherlands have had a long chat with Ian Maatsen about his season at Chelsea and where he sees his future.

After a preseason where he got more action than would have been expected, Maatsen is now getting almost no playing time at all. So how does he feel about it? The quotes reveal a lot:

“I still think it’s possible to play more at #Chelsea. Accepting [you won’t play] is difficult, as a young boy you always want more. I get confidence from the manager’s words and am ready when the opportunity comes,” the Dutchman said.

“Meanwhile, I have to keep all options open. Maybe I’ll have to make a difficult decision later on, but then Chelsea will also let me know.”

We’ve heard a lot of links between Maatsen and a potential move away from Chelsea – and who could begrudge him that? He’s too good to sit on our bench forever. We were very against the idea we might sell him at the end of the summer, but as it’s turned out the late signing of Cole Palmer shut down any chances for minutes at all, and now a departure looks rather inevitable, despite his positivity.
