Chelsea youth genius ecstatic as dream comes true

When Levi Colwill scored yesterday, he went through one of the funniest transformations we’ve seen.

He was so delighted to be on the scoresheet, grabbing his first goal for Chelsea at a crucial moment in a difficult Premier League season.

But as he went to celebrate wildly, he remembered he had just scored against the team where he had spent last season on loan and had truly made his top flight breakthrough. So midway through joy and ecstasy, he suddenly got serious.

It was funny to watch, and reading his interview with Nizaar Kinsella in the Evening Standard today, you can see why he was so torn, given how much the goal meant to him:

“This is what every little boy in the academy thinks about – I am so happy to be living my dream.

“This moment means everything to me after growing up through the club and academy. It was a lot of emotions after I headed it in. But I wasn’t sure if the referee would give it, and he gave it. I ran off to celebrate my first Prem goal but then realised it was against my old team, so I needed to show them some respect, which I did.

“Brighton, the fans and the manager did a lot for me, and I wouldn’t be here without them and chose not to over-celebrate; it was the least I could do. I am hoping to get many more for Chelsea. I have so much more I need to prove. Hopefully, I can prove how good I can be.”

It was a big moment for him and the team, and we have two more big moments coming up this week. We hope Levi is having a nice day off soaking up the applause, and is ready to get his head back on to play Man U on Wednesday.
