Chelsea youth star’s impressive performance earns new contract with 4 goals and 5 assists in 8 games
We reported 5 days ago that Chelsea were closing in on agreeing a new deal with midfielder Leo Castledine, and according to Simon Johnson of the Athletic, that contract has now been signed.
UPDATE: Chelsea have now confirmed the signing, and the details – he signs a 3 and a half year deal taking him to the summer of 2027.
Castledine has been highly rated since he was very young, and has continued to develop into the player we’re all hoping for, a dynamic and creative midfield presence. His stats – 4 goals and 5 assists in 8 games in PL2, are so good we’re not sure they can be correct.
The hard part will have been convincing the teenager that he has a pathway to first team action here, but for now he can just worry about youth football and potentially a loan move next season.
He made the bench for our 2-0 win over Blackburn in the EFL Cup last month, and we expect plenty more of those to come now he’s signed up for the long term, with first team training sessions likely to continue to be a regular feature.
