Conor Coady makes big claim after Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle; ‘They will eat you up’
Former Premier League star, Conor Coady has blamed complacency for Chelsea’s 4-1 loss against Newcastle United.
The Blues were handed a forgettable loss on Saturday, with Raheem Sterling scoring the Blues only goal at St. James Park.
After the game, Mauricio Pochettino quickly described the performance from his side as the worst he’s seen in a long time, and even said they lacked enough energy.
Chelsea also suffered a red card to Reece James, who was one of the worst players on the day.
While speaking on the Monday Night Club on Tuesday, Leicester defender, Coady said he thought the Blues were not at their best, and might have dropped their levels because they underestimated Newcastle.
He said: “I think from my own point of view and I don’t know because I’m not in the Chelsea dressing room, but I think a bit of complacency. You go from having that high against Manchester City, and I thought it was a fantastic game and playing really well and scoring a last minute goal and all these different things, then going and playing a bit of a depleted Newcastle and I think what the Chelsea manager there said is everything you can’t go to Newcastle and be…
“Newcastle will eat you up and spit you back out really, because of how they play and how full throttle they are. So you can’t go there and do what he said, so I don’t know whether it was a bit of complacency after a good game against Man City and you think now we are going to Newcastle, but you go there and do that and Newcastle will play well.”
