Chelsea are preparing to take on Manchester United on Wednesday night, with both clubs in a rather unusual situation.
They’ve both had a pretty dreadful 12 months, with a few bright spots here and there. As Chelsea have hit the depths of despair this season, United have picked up some better results, but with an equally mutinous fanbase.
It will be very interesting to see how the game at Old Trafford goes. Chelsea got a heartening win at the weekend, without really convincing, while United were swatted aside by Newcastle.
Both teams know that this is going to be a big game for them as they push for European places, and this is likely to be a 6 pointer given they’re competing for the same objectives.
Speaking on ESPN, Frank Leboeuf had some interesting thoughts about the Blues’ chances:
“But if by any kind of chances… I would say Chelsea can win at Old Trafford, [then] that will be a big fight between those two. But how disappointing it is to say that none of them are going to finish in the first four.”
We know what he means – these two should be competing for titles, not the Conference League. But that’s football for you.
