Ex-Chelsea star striker claims Pochettino has ‘lost the plot’ following his comments after Newcastle defeat

BBC pundit, Chris Sutton has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino has ‘lost the plot’ after the Argentine berated his players for their performance during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United.

The Blues didn’t turn up the same way they did against the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City, and were easily beaten by Eddie Howe’s men, who mounted pressure on them from the blow of the first whistle.

After the defeat, Pochettino said he was angry with the way Chelsea played, telling BBC Sport: “I think these type of games make me very, very, very, very, very angry because it’s about showing your personality and character.”

Sutton however, believes that the 51-year-old may have been more stern than he normally is, and argues that he may have lost the plot after those comments.

The pundit said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I can’t remember Mauricio Pochettino coming out as a manager and being as strong as this before. He is normally pretty mild mannered and looks for the positives. I think he feels let down by his players.

“I think it is a trust thing with him and he’s throughout the season they have had good moments and bad moments, but a real lack of consistency with them.

“It will be interesting how this whole situation pans out now because as I say he sort of lost the plot and I think he feels very let down by his players.”
