Big striker target moves towards Chelsea’s rivals when given a clear choice
Another frustrating game at the weekend has Chelsea fans pining for the January transfer window ot cure what ails us, and right now there’s no bigger flaw than up front.
Ivan Toney of Brentford has been linked since last season as a potential game-changing attacking option, to finally score the goals we need, but right now Arsenal seem to be leading the race.
Transfer insider Dean Jones had a very long explainer of why the Gunners simply present a more tempting option than Chelsea right now – and it’s not just about our position in the table:
“Chelsea have got Nicolas Jackson, who is an out-and-out nine, he’s just not scored enough goals so far this season. And they’ve got Christopher Nkunku coming back in and they’ve got a lot of other forward players who can play in and around that position. We don’t even know what Chelsea’s level is or what it’s going to be in the next couple of years,” Jones said to Give Me Sport.
“But at Arsenal, it’s more established now in terms of what their vision is. They’re going to be in the Champions League next season, they’re going to be challenging for the Premier League title and they’ve got Eddie Nketiah, but he is not really on that Toney level. And I think that’s why if you gave him a straight choice, that was about football, I think he would probably go for Arsenal.”
Still, despite all that we wouldn’t give up all hope just yet. We have the financial muscle to pull off a deal, and as time goes by Toney may feel that he’s better off accepting a move to join us than he is waiting for an Arsenal offer than may never come.
Things are going to get very heated on this front, very soon.
