How Pochettino reacts to Conor Gallagher’s red card against Brighton during Sunday’s EPL clash

Chelsea were once again forced to finish a game with a man down after Conor Gallagher was given his marching orders during Sunday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Blues won the game 3-2, thanks to the grit of the players, who were determined to prove a point after last Saturday’s 4-1 loss away at Newcastle United.

Enzo Fernandez netted twice, including once from the penalty spot, while Levi Colwill scored his first Chelsea goal in the entertaining match. However, nerves were sent flying after Gallagher was sent off due to a poor challenge on former Blue, Billy Gilmour late in the first half.

The Chelsea midfielder had initially seen a yellow card for fouling Facundo Buonanotte, before receiving a second from centre referee, Craig Pawson, although Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t think it was a correct decision.

“I don’t believe it was,” the Chelsea coach told BBC Match of the Day when asked about the sending off.

“I need to see it again. We need to understand the referee but they need to understand us.”

He added: “Look, this type of thing happens in football. Of course, [I am] disappointed because we should finish with a player but it happens and we need to accept.

“We are a young team. We need to leave this kind of experience with red cards. With time we’re gonna improve and avoid this kind of situations.

“The team was really good, I feel very proud because Newcastle was tough and then again Brighton is always difficult to play and in the first 25 minutes we scored twice and were controlling the game.

“We were a little bit flat when we conceded at the end of the first half in the second half and then Gallagher was sent off. It wasn’t a second yellow card, but that is my opinion, maybe I am wrong.”
