Lamine Yamal becomes youngest player in Barcelona’s La Liga history

 

History was made yesterday as 15-year-old Lamine Yamal becomes the youngest player to debut for Barça in the 21st century when they host Real Betis at the Spotify camp Nou.

 

The 15-year-old Yamal was born in July 2007, he breaks the record previously held by Ansu Fati.

 

Lamine Yamal finally made his senior debut on Saturday against Real Betis, with explanation from the Xavi on the reasons for his early promotion to the senior team setup.

 

According to Xavi Hernandez:

“All those who are there can participate,” Xavi said. “[Yamal] is very talented, despite being 15 years old. He has personality, talent, one-on-ones, he is strong… He is a player who can define an important era in the club.

“He is happy, grateful and happy to be on the list. If it happens that he has to play, I’m sure he can help us.”

Yamal who still on a youth contract with Barcelona could be use by the first team across competitions. Xavi made it cleared that his promotion to the senior team is not a strategy to convince him to stay.
