Latest update on Romelu Lukaku as future looks bleak without direction

The story today on Romelu Lukaku confirms what we’ve speculated already in the last week. The striker’s unbelievably short sighted actions have stranded him at Chelsea, and as it stands it’s hard to see any way out for him.

The Belgian turned down a huge money move to Saudi Arabia – and Al Hilal have since signed Neymar. So that avenue is closed.

He also burned his bridges with Inter, who had finally made offers that Chelsea considered acceptable.

That leaves just Juventus, who Law describes as the “only club actively keen” on signing the striker. But there’s been no progress there for weeks, nor does there seem any prospect of it.

Juventus can’t sign him until they’re rid of Dusan Vlahovic, and neither Chelsea nor anyone else want the Serbian striker, especially on his massive wages, which Law says will rise to £10m a year after tax next season.

So barring a shock turnaround, Lukaku is either going to be spending this season in Chelsea’s reserves, or he will have to take finally accept a Saudi offer – likely for much less than he was offered before.

One might almost feel sorry for him… if he wasn’t a multimillionaire professional footballer who has caused the whole mess himself…
