Mauricio Pochettino openly confesses a special revelation about Tottenham ahead of their match against Chelsea

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed his return to former side Tottenham will be “special” as he prepares his team for a huge clash on Monday night. The Argentinian coach had plenty of relative success in his time managing in north London, making supporters believe again.

Nurturing a young and promising squad, Pochettino guided them towards regular top four finishes, a title push and an impressive Champions League run. In the end, it wasn’t enough to end the club’s trophy drought though, despite numerous attempts that came close.

Chairman Daniel Levy parted ways with the head coach, looking to hire replacements that had experience winning the biggest trophies. Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte followed and while there was a push towards shifting mentality, they ended up leaving trophyless.

In the mean time, Pochettino took a return to PSG as a coach, somewhere he had been before during his playing days and looked to add that winning pedigree to his CV. He managed to earn some trophies, but was eventually relieved of his duties as the club took a different direction.

So this summer, with the role back open at Tottenham and a former coach that had plenty of success now available, it seemed as though their paths would cross once more. It didn’t though, with Pochettino opting for a shock move to rivals Chelsea and Levy looking elsewhere.

Ange Postecoglou was appointed for Spurs and with the two sides looking to reinvent themselves over the summer, there have been some big changes. The Blues currently sit mid-table as their new head coach attempts to cultivate a winning style for his group of young players.

The Lilywhites have a new style too but with an impressive transfer window, the fresh approach in management has the side topping the table. So with all that history laid out, it makes for an intriguing London derby clash when Chelsea and Tottenham face off on Monday.

The reception Pochettino receives will be an interesting point too, but for the former boss it has been described as a “special moment”. He told the press on Friday: “Really special because coming back after four years to a place we have amazing memories and create amazing memories together, I think it is special. I cannot lie.”

When it was put to him that he didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to the club, the manager responded: “That is true, because in the moment I left the club, it was a difficult situation, a difficult moment. Now, we have the opportunity to come back and see people who are still working there, a good chance for us, and it’s going to be an exciting moment.”

“I’m not going to say anything at the moment because until Monday we cannot guess,” Pochettino added on the reception from fans. “The most important is people know we cannot forget what we lived together. Amazing memories and then I’m going to respect the people, how they’re going to express. It won’t change my emotions, my view, my feelings about a club where we spent an unbelievable journey.”
