Paul Merson predicts what would be the best result Chelsea can get when they face Man City on Sunday

Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to cause Manchester City problems when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues will undoubtedly go into the fixture full of confidence after their 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, however, Mauricio Pochettino will also be wary against the league leaders, knowing how dangerous they can be.

In the last six matches between the two sides, City have beaten Chelsea with a combined scoreline of 10-0. In fact, the last time Chelsea beat City was in 2021 when Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game to hand the Blues their second UEFA Champions League title.

Merson thinks the game will be a tight one, although he also believes that Chelsea would be happy with a draw.

“If Chelsea get a draw that’s a good result. But it’s not a free hit,” the football pundit told Sky Sports.

“Playing in front of 38,000 at Stamford Bridge against the best team in the world, Chelsea fans turn up to win, not to make sure their team doesn’t get beaten by two or three.

“When you play for big football clubs you’re expected to go out and win or give it a go. Chelsea win trophies.

“Tottenham were going to have a go at Chelsea and that’s why I was bullish about them being able to get something. That plays into Chelsea’s hands.

“Man City will be the same. Chelsea will cause them problems, no doubt about it, but Man City will cause major problems at the same time. It’s a game Man City know they have to play well to win.”
