Pochettino feels owner pressure as coach – “They don’t care how unrealistic that may be, that’s what they want.”

Last night, Simon Phillips pointed out the chilling truth these owners want Champions League qualification this year. They don’t care how unrealistic that may be, that’s what they want.

He noted that Pochettino will be “feeling” pressure as he will be more aware than anyone of their demands.

It’s a chilling reminder to some of us fans, who may have been lulled into a false sense of security by the fact we like Pochettino and have yet to hear any scary rumours.

With the team always feeling like it’s on the cusp of an improved season, it’s hard to feel the pressure. But the reality is that they’re jammed deep in mid table. Europe looks tricky right now, let alone the Champions League.

Chelsea’s owners want UCL qualification this season. So whilst people might want to keep saying this is a developing team and project, the reality says different. Pochettino as manager will absolutely be feeling that right now.

Despite the positive noises and positive feels around Pochettino, we shouldn’t bury our heads in the sand and ignore how quickly things can change.

Everyone is desperate for it to work out, and just a run of 3 or 4 wins will do so much for morale.
