Poor stats: Chelsea place at the bottom of the league
Chelsea’s poor stats place them at the bottom of the league, necessitating immediate improvement for any progress
Chelsea’s two red cards in two games has catapulted them to the top (or the bottom, depending on how you look at it) of the Premier League’s fair play table.
The Blues have 47 yellow cards in 14 games. That’s 5 clear of the next team on the list.
Then then have 3 red cards, putting them joint second in the league.
It’s not a violent team of thugs, it’s just a quite inexperienced and ill disciplined team who are often playing with such desperation that they’re getting caught up in the moment. Conor Gallagher’s second yellow was a perfect example.
We’ve also seen an exceptional number of silly yellows. Even yesterday day there was dissent, kicking the ball away, and silly tackles which didn’t need to be made.
There’s no doubt been some bad luck involved so far, but equally it desperately needs to change if we’re to get to the next level.
