Reece James reveals who to blame after embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle

Chelsea captain, Reece James has spoken up after the Blues were defeated 4-1 by Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

It was an outing to forget for James and his teammates, who couldn’t handled the intense pressure from the home side.

The 23-year-old was particularly not at his best throughout the contest, as he struggled to contain the speed of Anthony Gordon.

Things got worse for Chelsea after James got sent off in the second half for pulling down the former Everton star during a Newcastle attack.

The skipper had seen a yellow card in the 55th minute for needlessly kicking the ball away, and probably left the referee no choice with his second foul.

The fans have been very furious with James, who was expected to play the full game because of his influence on the team for his immaturity in the clash, but the England international has now come out to apologise for the mistakes.

He wrote on his Instagram: “I take full responsibility for my red card today, two silly mistakes. Another lesson for me to learn. I’d like to apologise to the fans and my teammates.

“The performance today was far below our standards but this game does not define us! We’ve made huge improvements this season against many top teams. We’ll be back next weekend.”
