Revealed: Chelsea suffered £40m loss in wages due to injured players
Chelsea lost £40m in wages due to injured players, as per a major study
A major study featured in the Evening Standard today has looked at the impact of injuries up and down the Premier League last season.
Chelsea had problems beyond just those out injured, but their medical problems were a major contributor to their terrible season. The study claims that players like N’Golo Kante, Reece James and Ben Chilwell being out for long spells cost us the equivalent of £40m in their wages.
Amazingly, the 68 injuries Chelsea had last season wasn’t even the most in the league – Manchester United pipped them with 69.
But if one were to include this season, where we’ve had another chunk of players out, we’re sure we’d win the total battle. The “Howden’s European Football Injury Index” shows just how battered we were by bad luck over the last 12 months, but we’re now in the best shape we have been in a while, and we hope that the returns of Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia and eventually Ben Chilwell will have us looking strong for the first time in 2 years.
