Romano’s Pochettino backing sounds like a threatening repetition of disappointing results and mistakes

Fabrizio Romano doesn’t just do transfers these days. His channels from clubs to social media are used by agents and owners for all sorts of purposes these days, and today we have a rather worrying defence of Mauricio Pochettino.

It’s supposed to be a vote of confidence for the Argentine, with all the usual lines about him being a long term choice and having the full confidence of the board, as well as excuses about the young squad and the injuries.

But instead, his references to the things the board don’t want to see more of sound rather more pointed, more specific and more dangerous than the platitudes about keeping him:

“Chelsea want to see improvement – they are not happy with the same disappointing results, the same mistakes and these kind of things. They want to see a better level, like they saw against Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City,” the insider is quoted as saying in Caughtoffside’s Daily Briefing.

It’s well known that the most dangerous time for a manager is when they get a vote of confidence from the ownership. A vote of confidence which comes via a transfer insider has got to be the most poisonous of all.
