VISA issues delay Chelsea transfer of Star Player to Stamford Bridge

There is a delay in the signing of Djordje Petrovic, with the Serbian goalkeeper unable to travel to take his medical because of VISA issues.

Fabrizio Romano says that the medical tests booked for today will now take place “between Thursday and Friday.”

We had speculated that if the tests were completed today and Petrovic was in town to sign his contract, there was a fair chance he was picked to sit on the bench for Friday night’s game, with Lucas Bergstrom freed up for a loan.

However this delay obvious kills those chances.

All in all it should be a relatively minor administrative hiccup. We’re no experts on the new work permit system, but there’s no way Chelsea would have gone through all the effort of agreeing to sign the keeper unless they knew he would qualify.

Well, that’s exactly what happened with Andrey Santos in January… but surely they’ve learned their lesson since then?
